Workshops & Events
This is an African Music project which presently has two groups of young people, performing in Leeds and Huddersfield. The Leeds group, funded by Leeds Leisure Services participated in the Breeze 2004 Festival, perormed at The Venue, Leeds Carnival Queen Show and Chapel Allerton Arts Festival.
Africa for All in Huddersfield is currently based in Crosland Moor, on a project funded up to September 2004 by the Local Network Fund, The Children's Fund and Arts in the Neighborhood Kirklees. During this time the group performed at The Rumboat as support for a Congalese Dance Band "Koko Kanyinde". They also had a float in Huddersfield Carnival (which was voted second best on the day!) and they performed live on stage. The Crossland Moor project is on-going and will continue at least until summer 2005.
We are taking this project into three local Nurseries in conjunction with Surestart. We would also welcome hearing form other organisations or groups who would like to offer similar workshops on a one-off or on-going basis.
Local "Music Maker" Lamin Jassey - Master Drummer and all round musician and vocalist from the Gambia, West Africa - will lead sessions featuring a range of African Drumms and Percussion, Guitar, Balafon, Keyboards and more!
He will be joined by musicians from the band African Roots (Reggae) and Tamala (Salsa), plus guest local and touring African and Caribbean artists.
Weekly sessions are held at Crosland Moor Junior School, Dry Clough Road, Huddersfield HD4 and
Rockstone Studios, Bradford Road, Huddersfield.
Africa Tamala is sponsored by The National Foundation for Youth Music.

If you like drumming and dancing, playing different instruments and singing, then join our free sessions!
