The invitation to local musicians and artists to perform alongside top artists, local people to work on events - in areas of marketing, sound systems, security and hospitality, plus the workshops themselves, all increase peoples active participation in the arts and fosters local initiatives.

 

We consistently aim to bring high quality musicians to highlight the positive aspects of cultural diversity, and to further awareness and appreciation of African music, history and culture at an in-depth level that will leave a lasting impression.

Regular African music nights- Phoenix nightclub, African & Latin nights– Coconut Grove nightclub.

Oct.1987-May 1988. Six month musical trip in West Africa–The Gambia, Senegal & Guinea Bissau- staying with many different musicians and recording live music-our main hosts being Dembo Konte & Kausu Kuyateh (kora players) and family. Mobile Sound System in The Gambia, West Africa; Oct `90- July`92- parties, naming ceremonies, and events at various villages.

 

Womad festivals-Bracknell and Morecambe, regular sessions at the West Indian Centre for private parties and benefits for such as the Leeds Mozambique support group, Leeds Anti- Apartheid, the Zimbabwe Education Trust Fund, Central American week, Latin nights. Regular nights for L.U.U African Society, private parties at venues such as the York Arts Centre, Haddon Hall and guest spots at the Underground, Talkin` Reality events & gigs such as the Four Brothers (Zimbabwe). Regular sounds to accompany SOUNDJATA gigs and events.
